Teaching Activity

For me, classroom is not only a matter of conveying material, teacher and students, but also a matter of interaction between teacher and students. It is also about motivating students and encouraging students to learn better. How a lesson progress and whether it is successful or not largely depends on the interaction that I have with the students. When I am able to generate such a good interaction with the students, the classroom atmosphere is going to be enjoyable that encourage students to learn better. For me, students can learn better when they do not feel frustrated.  

I am sure in teaching English as a second language, the interaction become much more important thing in classroom. When I interact to the students, actually I create such a relax classroom atmosphere which makes students get motivated to share their opinion, participate in every activity that I provide. Moreover when I interact using English, it will become more useful for them. In short, the students do not only learn the language but also use it as a medium of learning and practice to use it at once.

My teaching objective besides conveying the material for the students to learn, I also create such an attractive interaction in order to motivate and encourage students to learn better by having relax classroom atmosphere. In this case, I convey the material by wrapping the material in such an attractive way. To teach particular material, I always try to choose attractive topic that the students like, for example; I choose music as a topic to teach “present tense” then they are encouraged to learn by having their favorite musician as a topic.  

Since I am a teacher, I realize that I am the generator of the learning process. I influence the classroom interaction very much. Some other important key to encourage students to learn is feedback to student’s performance. I pay much attention in giving feedback to student’s performance, I am always careful to give appropriate feedback for students otherwise the students will get offended and discouraged do learn. For example I will not ever say “stupid” for student who makes a mistake.

I believe that the learning process will get better when it is done in relax classroom situation. The results I have seen in my students are quite positive. Almost all of them are encouraged to learn English. I can see that they are attracted to ask some question, do the task that I give, participate well in every activity that I provide.         

Teaching seems like cooking where I have to make our own recipe to get delicious meals.

Three Objectives in Having a Job

As we live, everybody needs to have a job. Take a look at Job Fair at your campus, it must be damn crowded with hundreds or even thousands job-seeker especially fresh graduate people. Yeah, I guess we do agree that having a job is kind of important thing to make a live. Do they know what they looking for, actually?.   Having a job can be aimed either to fulfill daily needs or help somebody else (Volunteer). Everybody does have a reason to choose which job to do. In having a job, we should have our expectation and target that we should achieve a month later, a year, or even ten years later. As I see people have at least three expectations in choosing and doing the job.

1. Fighting for Money

Maybe this is common reason (why) people doing a job. As we live we need a cost to fulfill daily needs, to pay school fee, to build a house, or even to buy a car. Yeah, it is true that everybody needs money, but a worker on this category put money above everything. They can spend the whole day at office without considering their own family. They think that it is enough that their wife and children to get money as they work. Sometimes they forget that their family (also) need to have togetherness, smile, laugh, etc. Those kind of happiness can not ever ever be paid with money or even compered with car, house, gadgets, clothes that the worker gave to their family. The important point is, if You wanna gain much money, You have to keep on the right track to get your desire achieved.

2. Loving The Job

Another reason is Love or Passion. This reason is suitable for social worker(s). In this reason, the worker(s) doing a job for passion not for money anymore. Take a look at this guy, Masdar Fahmi (25); one of volunteer teacher who wants to leave the job to be a teacher at remote area around Indonesia. He was ready to go to the remote area with other contingents. On this case, the worker do not think about money they gain, the don't dream to have a fancy house, jewelery, damn expensive car. They think about what to  give to people around. Sometimes they go to somewhere far away to reach the job that they love, the job that they think can be the place for them to share knowledge, thought, inspiration. For sure, the place that they think can make them more valuable for the people around. At this case Masdar Fahmi going to somewhere far to be a teacher, because he does think this place badly need him to teach. For sure, this is might be hard to to find a people who are willing to go to this place just be a teacher. As we see that this place or this institution does not offer much money for the salary, It is all about humanity, love, willingness, voluntary, and sharing. It might be there will be a few people to take this reason to get a job. This reason is more valuable. Personally, I do respect the people who choose this kind of job. However, the greatest idea at these two reasons above, They need to combined. One time you got wealth, please donate! That's the one thing to keep life harmony.

 3. Working for Prestige 

This one you can see how vary people think about life. Might be this one is little bit about money and passion as well. As we life together, people do have assumption each other. Then, people who really aware about this, For  sure they will choose a job that affect people thought for himself. No matter the money that they gain, no matter the passion they carry for this job. Many people do judge the book by it's cover. I ever found people who eager to get a job where the workers suit properly such as; Shirt, tie, shining shoes, coat. No matter what job it is. Here, we can see that this kind of people do the job for the people thought around. Personally, I think this one is not fair, this one is kind of fake job. Anyway, people vary in thought.

As the conclusion, people do have their own reason to do the job. No one right, No one wrong. It depend on your thought and condition. The underlined thing is we do need to do the job as the best we can do.

I Have No Girlfriend

I am twenty-year old man who does not have a girlfriend, I always go everywhere alone. All of my friends have a girlfriend; they always go everywhere accompanied by their girlfriend. Sometime it was really hurt me to see them holding each other’s hand while they were walking. But I am trying hard to throw away that feeling from my mind. It was Monday morning, when I had to go to campus early in the rush hour. With the warm sunshine accompany my step; I came out from my own house door. In that nice weather morning, I stood for a while waiting for a bus to drive me to campus. That bus had occupied with other passengers; most of them were teenagers holding their girlfriend’s hand. Out of blue I felt like the most unlucky man in this world. Even more, I will really get offended when my surrounding people ask me who my girlfriend is; it sounds like terrible thunder at midday. 

Fortunately, I found my old friend when I was on the way going to campus. I do hope he could accompany me chatting each other during the trip. On the rush hour we talked so many things as we had never met, escorted by vociferous sound of vehicle engine and deafening horn in such a boring traffic jam. We talked about our study in college; we shared how difficult it is and how funny it is. We were laughing out loud that time. Suddenly, I got morose when I heard him asking me.

“Who is your girlfriend now?”

I got really offended at that time and opened my eyes widely looking at her face and questioning angrily in my mind

“Why do you ask me such a mocking question?”

As the bus stopped at the stopping place for public vehicles, I ran into the campus as I looked at my watch getting ten minutes late. I came into the class while the lecturer explaining some material. I took a deep breath as I sited on the chair next to my close friend. Actually this was my favorite course, with calm lecturer who does not want her students to get stressed. It gave us more chance to chat each other in the crack of the lesson with the friends sitting nearby. We talked so many things unrelated to the course until I ran out of the idea to talk. We kept silent for a while, paying attention to the lecturer. It was hard for me to understand the materials today. When I shared this difficulty to understand the materials, out of blue he interrupts me by asking.

“Eeerrr who is your girlfriend?”.

That question trapped me into the darkness where I could not find the answer which suited me; I was shy to answer “I do not have any” as well. I tried to elusory that question by asking some other question, but he was still eager to know the answer.

It was the exhausting day for having some courses scheduled in one day. I directly went back home for doing some other household works. On the way to get back home I walked to a stopping place for public vehicles which took five minutes from the classroom. I was still muttering that annoying question which stained my beautiful day. As I came to my home I was welcomed by my brother who was sitting next to her girlfriend in the living room. I went straight to my bed room to dress up and lay on the bed for a while. As I got out from my bed room to take a glass of water, I met my mom who was cooking meal in the kitchen. I had small talk with her, and she asked me without looking at me.

“Who is your girlfriend son? Ask her to visit our home son!”;

Comparing me to my brother; I did not answer that irritating question and went to the backyard.   

I sited in the back yard looking at the waterfall in my lovely small park with few fish in it. It calmed down my irritated mind after having an aggravating question which occupied my day. It was really forced me to find appropriate answer. Even more, I thought it would be better to find lovely girl to be my girlfriend. I do expect that this deriding question would not damage my day anymore.

Modernization Era

Modernization is rising nowadays, especially in a big city or in a capital city of province. Take a look in Jakarta, the modernizations is really amazing for some people. Every sight in old Jakarta in 1980’s has changed into wonderful modernization in every corner at Jakarta nowadays. We can see a lot of condominium fill up Jakarta. Besides, any modern vehicles are in Jakarta’s traffic. For example; bus way (public transportation), and modern train. Some people are astonished to realize how significant the differences between Jakarta in 1980’s and Jakarta at present are.
We can see such a big alteration in building between Jakarta in 1980’s and Jakarta at present. There were only a few buildings which filled up Jakarta in 1980’s. The buildings are not such a kind of condominium as we can see nowadays, but it is only simple building such as traditional store buildings and restaurant buildings which sold ancient cuisine. Unlike Jakarta in 1980’s, Jakarta at present has more buildings which are definitely advanced. There are a lot of buildings a long the road in Jakarta nowadays. Moreover, the design of buildings is more complicated than the past. The shape of buildings and the room are not merely square but also more complex such as hexagon, trapezium, and so on.
Not only buildings which are getting advanced, but also the traffic in Jakarta nowadays is more complicated than Jakarta in 1980’s. The traffic at Jakarta in 1980’s was really rare. Moreover, they were only traditional vehicle, such as; Pedi cab, carriage, and cart. the road was still simple. Different with the traffic in Jakarta in 1980’s, Jakarta’s traffic nowadays is much more crowded. Even people sometimes are trapped in traffic jam. Furthermore, the vehicles are really advanced. Unlike the road at Jakarta in 1980’s, nowadays the road is modern, such; fly over, so that we can ride our vehicle comfortably.
At the other hand, Jakarta nowadays is more polluted than in Jakarta in 1980’s. In 1980’s there were less pollutions’ so that people could still breathe in fresh air, drink with clean water, and grow any plants in fertile soil. It is really contradictive condition with Jakarta at present; everything in Jakarta has been polluted by factories and vehicles. It is difficult for people to find fresh air, clean water, and it is also rather hard to find fertile soil to grow a plant.
Some people feel a little regret when they see Jakarta as a bustling town. Now they can not visit and enjoy the old Jakarta which used to be quite anymore.
